Heidi's Story

On the 4 August 2019 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.  I have 11 lesions in my brain and 5 in my spine. It is random.  In me it affected the left side of my body. One night my left side went numb.  It lasted a week.  I went to the doctor and was sent straight to hospital for tests. I spent a week in hospital.  I was treated with steroids and bed bound for a month. My shock was complete!!  My family were in disbelief and I ended up taking 4 weeks off work as a full time teacher.

The crucial day for me was when my boss in my school offered me medical retirement and on the same day the MS field Worker came to my house and explained what the disease was.  At that point I decided to do something to give me the skills I needed to return to work part time and re –enter my life again.  I researched the ‘Lightning Process’, which is a brain training course to influence your health. It was facilitated by a trained practitioner, Jenny Oliver. I miraculously was able to get onto a course in Hastings and a friend was able to drive me there.  On the course I learned about the power of my mind in life. It shifts your thinking to be positive and trains your mind to remain in a peaceful state.  I learned that I had a choice to influence my own health.  I could do sick or health.  It was up to me.  I was choosing to be a victim of life and accept my diagnosis as my life being over, that decision robbed me of my joy and energy.  So I put a stop to that mind-set.   I used the techniques and after one day I had dramatically more energy.  By day two I was running, walking and shopping, all of which had stopped since the MS diagnosis.  By day three I had power to get up in the morning for a lovely run and the energy I had been missing. With the confidence I had gained I committed to returning to work part time and did so successfully.  I have now been back at work full time since then

I discovered how to react every time a symptom appeared and have been using the ‘Lightning Process’ ever since. I also have changed my diet to become a vegan and exercise every day.  The change is incredible.  My husband is proud of me, my three young children have noticed that I am calmer and yet, have more energy.  My workmates are impressed.  Incredibly, my father said “It’s good to have our daughter back”.  I have learned to change my attitude by changing the words I use.  I now say ‘sausage’ instead of ‘symptom’ and I now say ‘Mary Sue’ instead of ‘Multiple Sclerosis’.  What you focus on is what you become.  I choose not to use scary medical terms and frighten myself.    .

As a result of my new attitude I applied for a scholarship to sail around the Hauraki Gulf for 1 week. I won!! I got to go on Steinlager 2 and Lion New Zealand December 2019.  I was selected as one of the 40 people in the world to have this opportunity from the 2.3 million people who have it in the world.  I gained friends and memories on the life changing trip.

I have found Jenny a very gentle and wise person.  She is easy to talk to and can understand where I am coming from.  She is approachable and a good communicator.  For example, I had a talk with her about a very deep and hurtful experience and she was able to give me incredibly practical tools which I have been using successfully for over a year now.  I am now free of the dark thoughts that dominated my life for over 20 years.  I have been so impressed with how my life has improved that I have recommended 5 people who have found wonderful results with Jenny too.  Our lives have been set free to live the life we were meant to have and it is great to see how we are all enjoying our new lives.  When we catch up we inspire each other to keep using our L.P skills.

I have sustained this momentum and am still working full time.  I have received a promotion at work where I focus on improving the positive behaviours of the school through well-being.  I use the principles of L.P in my new role.  I am still exercising, enjoying my family and friends and contribute to my local community.  I am so thankful for Mary Sue as this experience has taught me so much and changed my life.
